The Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje is the first state university in the Republic of North Macedonia, established in 1949. Today, it encompasses a community of 23 faculties, 5 scientific institutes, and 4 public scientific institutions and 8 other associate members offering study programs and research across various scientific fields, including natural and mathematical sciences, technical and technological fields, medical sciences and health, biotechnical sciences, social sciences, humanities and the arts.

The university serves more than 22,700 students in undergraduate programs and 14,100 students in graduate programs. The third cycle of studies, which includes doctoral programs, is coordinated through the School of Doctoral Studies, with 1,545 doctoral students enrolled. Over 3,100 individuals, including teaching, scientific, and administrative staff, contribute to the educational and research activities of the faculties and institutes.

The Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy in Skopje is a well-respected educational and scientific research institution established in 1959. It includes departments specializing in textile technology, organic technologies, inorganic technology, chemical engineering, and metallurgy. Over its decades-long history, the institution has made significant contributions to the development of the North Macedonia economy by producing highly qualified personnel who are well-versed in modern market and scientific trends.

The Department (Institute) of Textile Engineering was established in 1969. Over the past 55 years, the department has educated nearly all textile engineers in North Macedonia. Currently, the Department of Textile Engineering offers one bachelor's degree program in Clothing Design and Engineering, two master's degree programs in Textile Chemical Technology and Ecology, and Management of Clothing Processes, as well as one doctoral program in Textile Technology. Additionally, the department covers five scientific fields in textile science: Textile Chemistry, Textile and Technical Fibers, Mechanical Textile Engineering, Design of Textiles and Garments, and Garment Production.
